Women professionals are capable of earning a six-figure income today. A study in Chicago, for instance, revealed that the number of women earning $100,000 or more in 1998 rose by 68 percent from 1996. Author Barbara Stanny in her book “Secrets of Six-Figure Women” shares tips on how to earn more.
Never miss out on opportunities. Rather, grab them when they arrive and be resourceful as well in finding them.
Do ask for your desired income. Women high earners believe if you don’t ask, you won’t get it. Learn your market value so you would know how to negotiate for your salary. Remember also to negotiate down and never up otherwise, you will only scare prospective employers. Giving up one or two points won’t do you harm.
Laugh when you can. Women professionals should understand that although female earning power has risen, discrimination still exists in the workplace. So when you’re one of those being treated unequally by male bosses, colleagues and clients, learn how to have a good laugh.
Finally, it’s okay to have fears and doubts. Just take the challenge anyway and you will feel successful in the end.
